MINUTES MEETING OF NORTHPORT ARTS ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIP 4/10/17
Chris Verdon reported that the Student’s Exhibit was well attended and had great community support.
We will need a new Secretary and Treasurer in June. Linda Bayer has agreed to run for Treasurer. If you are interested in either position call Chris Verdon.
We need a team to work with Chris and Linda on grants, a team for fundraising, and volunteers to staff the VAB during all events.
Treasurer’s Report-- Linda Bayer
As of March 31 we have $7763, which includes $5963 for NAA reserve and the rest dedicated to specific exhibits. The Finance Committee is considering using Quickbooks instead of the Google Spreadsheets we currently use. Leelanau UncAged has $16,289.09 towards this year.
Exhibits-- John Mitchell
Our 4 major exhibits-- Plein Air, Northport Arts HIstory, Cars as Art, and Spark-- Artists Under 40 are all proceeding well. We received $9700 from the Leelanau Township Community Foundation to support these events. John will be organizing fundraising for additional funds required.
We have purchased insurance for the exhibits.
Spark-- Artists Under 40-- Moira Racich June 16-26
We are seeking artists to participate. There are posters all over the county and a color ad in the Enterprise. We need volunteers to staff the VAB. This will be a juried show with prizes. THe Board approved an immediate expenditure of $750 to promote this exhibit.
Cars As Art-- Keith Ashley-- May 25-28
All expenses are covered through grants and donations at this point. Keith continues to seek support from businesses. Press releases are going out. Betsy Ernst contacted 5 area high schools and $500 has been donated for 5 prizes for kids’ art. Sharon Kalchik is organizing food for the reception. We need volunteers to staff the VAB. The exhibit will include 200 pieces of concept art. There will be designer demonstrations at both the VAB and Cars in the Park.
Plein Air-- Gene Rantz
Letters have gone out to all previous participants reminding them of the event.
Public Art Committee-- Ernie Barry
After input from many local artists the group has decided on a design by Kat Dakota, which reflects the Beauty of the Bay. This will be etched on portable panels and painted by the community, hopefully sometime this summer.
NAA will apply for a grant from LTCF to support this project and the Village has agreed to match the grant.
Leelanau UnCaged-- Andy Thomas
This project is on track-- all previous sponsors have agreed to again support the event. Chris Verdon would like NAA to have some special event at VAB on the day of UnCaged and needs someone to champion the project.
Painting Class-- Denice Goldschmidt
This class starts the first Wed in May. More details are on our website. Any questions, please contact Denice at [email protected]
We will have a Members’ Show in October, but some have expressed interest in a Members’ Show in August. Currently no one is organizing this event. If you want to champion it contact
Chris. [email protected]
