MINUTES, NAA BOARD MEETING 2/8/2017

Chris Verdon, Tom Woodruff, John Mitchell, Linda Bayer present, Clare Gengarelly present by phone

Phone and Internet VAB

Chris presented costs for Charter v.s. ATT; recommended Charter at $74.97 per mo. for phone & internet. Board approved Charter starting April 1.

Security System

CHris and John looking at Security system which will be required for insurance for big exhibits. Quote from EPS with discount,: $2295 installation + $115 per mo. (for further discussion)

Utilities VAB

DTE $30 for Jan; Consumers $87.28 for 22 days in Jan. Will need to track for 1 year before we can project reliably.

Use of VAB

Board agreed anyone who uses VAB must sign use agreement specifying all intended uses. NCAC built sets after saying they were only going to rehearse.

Public Arts

Chris clarified our interaction with Village re Public Arts, e.g. that we provide creative support but not fundraising. Village will ask for grant for marina work.

Grants

Discussed Rotary Charity grants and Go Fund Me. Deadline for Rotary is end of April, but both sources might support things like Security system, computer, AV equipment.

OAB Steele Show

Steele grant for Leelanau Women artists Show (from OAB) too constraining--only full-time residents, only 1 big award, no sale of art, only painters, conflict with Leelanau Women Artists group--Board voted to allow Steele’s group to rent VAB if they desire, but it will not be a Northport Arts Association Project.

Purchases for NAA

Committee heads are responsible for expenses for their projects, once approved. Board agreed that, In future, all expenses will be preceded by a purchase order so communication with President and Treasurer remains clear.

Treasurer’s Report

$6235 includes $350 donations for various projects. lInda is developing spreadsheets which will keep records on each project separate. It cost $100.20 to advertise our events in the Enterprise. We need more discussion on how to pay for advertising, i.e. what percentage of funds from classes and events should go to advertise them? How much advertising is enough, and what vehicles are most effective? We probably need a committee for this.

A Gift of Light and Color

Tom is working with Northport School on LTCF-funded multi-media project --”A Gift of Light and Color”. Exhibit and presentation of students’ creations will be at VAB on March 7,8. Tom to send photo to Clare.

Update on Exhibits

John has applied for $9900 in grants, $2500 for each of the 4 exhibits. All going well. Should have cottage art, native american art, Hans Andersson and Emily Nash Smith art is History exhibit. John moved that we not have classes during Spark and History events…..Tom seconded, approved with 1 no (Clare).
